A wind advisory is in effect for the Big Island summits through noon Saturday.
Honolulu-based National Weather Service forecasters said west winds of 45 to 55 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, are expected for area of Mauna Loa and Maunakea above 8,000 feet in elevation.
Forecasters cautioned motorists that winds that strong can make driving difficult. As of Friday evening, the Maunakea Access Road remained open, according to the Maunakea Weather Center.
